Exercise Regularly Period (ERP)
Exercise is essential for health, but so often, we feel that we just never find that time. Now you can use that weekly Exercise Regularly Period (ERP) to start exercising and improve your health! Check out the series of exercises that we have designed for you under ERP@Work...
The ERP@Work is a series of exercises designed for MOE staff to use for the purpose of health improvement. The emphasis is on muscular endurance and for muscles to move repeatedly. The exercises are easy to do either at your workplace or home and even while carrying out your daily tasks. You can find out more about the exercises through the ERP@Work VCD and exercise instructional booklet available at all schools.
Exercise Tips:
- Exercise only when you feel well and do not experience any physical discomfort.
- Wear appropriate clothes and shoes for your activity.
- Consume sufficient water before, during and after your activity.
- Warm up and cool down for at least 10 minutes before and after your activity.
- For overall health improvement, engage in 30 minutes of physical activity on 5 or more days a week.

ERP@Parks
Engaging in physical activity is key to living healthily. Physical activity is important for maintaining good health and has been shown to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, hypertension and diabetes.
For 2008, we would encourage staff to include walking in the parks as part of their exercise routine during weekends or at their school’s Exercise Regularly Period. Walking is a simple and fun exercise plus you get to appreciate nature. It is also a great way for you to bond with your family, friends or colleagues!

Proper walking technique*:
- Walk with good posture - chin up and shoulders slightly back. Think tall. Keep a neutral spine with the head stacked over shoulders over hips over knees over feet.
- With each step, your heel touches the ground first. Reach out your leg with your knee, heel, and toe pointed forward in the direction of travel.
- Use smooth movements rolling over the ball of your foot onto your toes.
- One foot bears all your weight until your other heel strikes the ground.
- Swim arms naturally at your sides in opposition to your legs. For more intensity and upper body toning, use a bent arm position at a 90-degree angle, keep elbows close to body, and raise the hands no higher then chest level.
- Breathe normally (in 1-2 out 1-2).
Health Screening
It is important to check your health regularly. If you are looking for health screening packages, you may wish to check out the corporate rates given to MOE staff from several health care providers. Information can be found under OLive Privileges (for intranet users only).
